  • Passport with a validity of at least six months post the completion of the course
  • Copy of the completed and signed visa application form
  • Proof that you have enough financial resources to support yourself during the course and the funds for your return to your home country

Steps to follow to apply for Luxembourg Student Visa

Before you apply for a Luxembourg student visa, you must obtain a ‘temporary authorization to stay

by applying to the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg.

This temporary authorization to stay is valid for a period of 90 days only.

You will have to apply for your student visa within this 90 day period. You can go ahead with the following procedure to apply for a Luxembourg student visa:

Step 1: Download the visa application form

Your first step is to obtain the student visa application form for Luxembourg. You can obtain it either from Luxembourg’s Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post in your country or you can download the Visa Application Form through the internet.

In any case, your photograph must not be more than 6 months old. You will need to submit two copies of your passport photograph along with your visa application form.

The third-country national student must submit an application for a residence permit for third-country students to the Immigration Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs within 3 months of arrival in Luxembourg.

The following documents must be sent together with the specific residence permit application form:

  • a copy of their valid passport, in its entirety;
  • a copy of the temporary authorization to stay;
  • proof of final enrolment in a higher education establishment (enrolment certificate);
  • a copy of the declaration of arrival established by the communal authority;
  • proof of payment of a fee of EUR 80 to account IBAN LU46 1111 2582 2814 0000.

When the application is approved, the applicant will receive a letter inviting them to make an appointment with

the Immigration Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in order to have their photograph.

The applicant may also bring a recent photograph compliant with OACI/ICAO standards (‘biometric passport standards’).

The residence permit takes the form of a chip card containing the biometric data.

The residence permit includes information about its holder (surname, first name, nationality, date, and place of birth).
